March 24 – Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum in Brandon need emergency help to preserve it’s hangar
Brandon air museum puts out mayday call for roof, concrete repairs | CBC Scene (MB)

For comparison, the Edmonton hangar of the Alberta Aviation Museum was originally built to the same plan, but post-war remained in RCAF service for 418 (Edmonton) Squadron, and was updated with post-tensioned wires under the original trusses (applied to all other similar hangars marked for post-war use), which prevented the roof from sagging, and helped preserve the original cold-rolled asphalt roof. In the early 2000s, a new roof was installed over the original roof surface, and recently, when examined and compared to other structures in Eastern Canada, the trusses showed minimal sagging.

That time, Clint Eastwood almost drowned after crashing in a US Navy Skyraider off the coast of Northern California

And not the first time:

June 19, 1947, Pan American Airlines Constellation NC88845 ‘Clipper Eclipse‘, flying from Pakistan to Turkey, suffered an engine failure, followed by engine overheating and a fire, forcing it to land at night in the Syrian desert, resulting in the loss of seven crew members and eight passengers. Nineteen passengers and 3 crew survived. The lost crew members, Captain, First Officer, Second Officer-Pilot/Navigator, 2 Flight Engineers and 2 Radio Officers, all at their flight stations, indicate how labour-intensive these early long-distance flights were. Technical difficulties were significant as well; the same aircraft had had to return to land at Gander with an engine problem less than a week earlier, delaying them by two days on the eastbound flight (www.check-six.com). The only surviving flight officer was Third Officer, relief pilot E.W. Gene Roddenberry, who was in the cabin assisting the two cabin staff members, a Purser and a Stewardess. Roddenberry abandoned his flying career after this and took up writing. He was later better known as the creator of the ‘Star Trek’ TV series (via wikipedia).
